چکیده

We determine the range of neutrino masses and cosmic radiation content allowed by the most recent CMB and large-scale structure data. In contrast to other recent works, we vary these parameters simultaneously and provide likelihood contours in the two-dimensional parameter space of Neff , the usual effective number of neutrino species measuring the radiation density, and ∑ mν . The allowed range of ∑ mν and Neff has shrunk significantly compared to previous studies. The previous degeneracy between these parameters has disappeared, largely thanks to the baryon acoustic oscillation data. The likelihood contours differ significantly if ∑ mν resides in a single species instead of the standard case of being equally distributed among all flavors. For ∑ mν = 0 we find 2.7 < Neff < 4.6 at 95% CL while ∑ mν < 0.62 eV at 95% CL for the standard radiation content. Neutrino masses and cosmic radiation density: Combined analysis 2

Relic Neutrinos: Neutrino Properties from Cosmology

After a short introduction on the predicted cosmic neutrino background in the universe, we review some of the cosmological bounds related to neutrinos. In particular we show how the recent data on the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background radiation from the WMAP satellite, combined with other experimental results, can constrain the radiation content of the universal energy density and...

Ific/05-24 Massive Neutrinos and Cosmology

Cosmology can provide information on the absolute scale of neutrino masses, complementary to the results of tritium beta decay and neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. We show how the analysis of data from the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background radiation and from the distribution of cosmological large-scale structure, combined with other experimental results, provides an upp...

Neutrino masses and cosmology

Cosmology can provide information on the absolute scale of neutrino masses, complementary to the results of tritium beta decay and neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. We show how the analysis of data on cosmological observables, such as the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background or the distribution of large-scale structure, combined with other experimental results, provides an ...

New Constraints on Neutrino Masses from Cosmology

By combining data from cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments (including the recent WMAP third year results), large scale structure (LSS) and Lymanα forest observations, we derive upper limits on the sum of neutrino masses of Σmν < 0.17eV at 95% c.l.. We then constrain the hypothesis of a fourth, sterile, massive neutrino. For the 3 massless + 1 massive neutrino case we bound the mass of...

Limits on Neutrino Masses from Large-scale Structure

There is now evidence for neutrino oscillations from SuperKamiokande [1] (∆m ≃ 10 eV), the solar neutrino problem [2] (∆m ≃ 10 eV) and LSND [3] (0.1 eV ≤ ∆m ≤ 20 eV). While these oscillations only test the difference in squared masses, they give evidence that the mass of at least one (and probably at least three) neutrino species is non-zero. Laboratory limits from tritium beta decay rule out t...
